Following a Cabinet decision of the state government to establish Village Defence Force with an aim to protect villages, a recruitment rally was held today for Imphal west, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. The recruitment rally for Imphal west district was held at 2nd MR parade ground from 7 am, Thoubal district at Thoubal Basu ground and Bishnupur district at Bishnupur Mini Stadium ground. The candidates were tested in 800 meter race, long jump and push ups etc.In today`s recruitment, above 750 candidates came for the 350 posts for Imphal west, above 3000 candidates for the 500 posts for Thoubal district, and above 1000 candidates for 350 posts for Bishnupur district.Regarding the recruitment of VDF held at 2nd MR parade ground, the superintendent of police said that today`s test was conducted from Sl. In January the state Cabinet took a decision to convert SPOs to VDF and also agreed to recruit VDF for other districts as well. Meanwhile, a release from senior superintendent of Police, Imphal West District, Manipur asked candidates, excluding disqualified ones, who could not join the selection of Village Defence Forces (VDF) in respect of Imphal west district on February 16, 2009 at the 2nd MR parade ground, to reach by 7 am February 17 along with certificates of Class VIII, age proof certificate and appropriate dress for Physical Efficient Test (PET).

Meitei Nupi (Traditional Dress)

The conventional dress of Manipur, the land of Jewel, is simple and functional. The women here wear Phanek, a long wrapper around the waist, and an Innaphi (literally meaning wrapper) that covers the upper part of the body. Men wear Khudei which is a knee-length cloth wrapped in folds at the waist. But these days men's formal wear is a longer and ankle-length version called a Pheijom which is similar to the dhoti worn in the rest of India. Mayek Naibi, is a type of Phanek used by women when they go out. The main ethnic group in the state is Meitei, Different communities have varieties of dresses broadly classified for various occasions such as festivals, marriages an also for kings and queens and noblemen. In most of the north-eastern states weaving is a common hereditary occupation. So the traditional dresses of the people here are basically made of hand woven materials.

Morning Beauty

Morning Beauty

Calm waters float ashore,
to wake the sleeping shells.
Awakened by the cold hand of water,
they rise to invite others.
Soaring through the dead sky,
escaping the dark pits,
the sky illuminates life,
brightening the world.
The forest quietly unrolls its vines,
wrapping softly to small peaceful waterfalls.
Ferns reaching with their long arms,
to grasp the warm feeling of life.
Inhaling air and dead sediments,
flushing out to all.
Fresh air kissing while it passes by.

Those Childhood days

Those Childhood days

Oh those beautiful childhood days
I do miss them in many ways
Free periods in the school when we used to roam around
Cool games that we used to play in the ground
Small fights with friends that lasted for short duration of time
Interesting classes when we were taught the nursery rhyme
School lunch break when we used to share our food
Punishments in class when on the bench we stood
Tours in school that we were excited about
Free periods in class when we used to shout
Rushing out of the school to catch the school bus
When we used to reach home in a total mess
Little games in the evening when we all friends used to gather
Those beautiful days when we had nothing to bother
Now life has become hectic and has increased day by day
We have to rush and struggle hard to win the life's race
Sometimes I wish would
those golden days come back again?
When we were always happy without any pain.
